पोट, आतडे, यकृत व पित्ताशयाचा कर्करोग: गिळताना त्रास, सतत अपचन, उलटीत किंवा शौचातून रक्त, कावीळ, वजन कमी होणे – ही पोटाच्या कर्करोगाची लक्षणे असू शकतात. पित्ताशयाचा कर्करोग महाराष्ट्रात तुलनेने जास्त आढळतो.

This group includes cancers of the food pipe (oesophagus), stomach, colon and rectum, liver, pancreas, gall bladder and bile ducts. Gall bladder cancer is relatively common in Maharashtra, and Dr. Anup Toshniwal has published research on its treatment.

Warning signs

  • Difficulty swallowing, persistent indigestion or vomiting
  • Blood in vomit or stools, black stools, change in bowel habits
  • Jaundice (yellow eyes), itching
  • Unexplained weight loss, a lump in the abdomen, anaemia

Diagnosis

Endoscopy or colonoscopy with biopsy, CT/PET-CT scan and tumour markers (CEA, CA 19-9).

Treatment

  • Chemotherapy before and/or after surgery
  • Chemoradiation for food pipe and rectal cancers
  • Targeted therapy and immunotherapy based on tumour testing (HER2, MSI, RAS and others)
  • Palliative chemotherapy and symptom relief (stents, nutrition, pain control) for advanced disease
