तोंड, घसा व मानेचा कर्करोग: तंबाखू, गुटखा, खर्रा व धूम्रपानामुळे तोंडाचा कर्करोग मराठवाड्यात खूप सामान्य आहे. तोंडात न भरणारी जखम, पांढरा/लाल डाग, तोंड कमी उघडणे किंवा मानेवर गाठ असल्यास लगेच दाखवा.
मुंह, गले व गर्दन का कैंसर: तंबाकू, गुटखा और धूम्रपान से मुंह का कैंसर बहुत आम है। मुंह में न भरने वाला छाला, सफेद/लाल दाग, मुंह कम खुलना या गर्दन में गांठ हो तो तुरंत दिखाएं।
Cancers of the mouth, tongue, cheek, throat and voice box are among the most common cancers in men in Maharashtra, largely due to tobacco, gutkha, kharra and smoking.
Warning signs
- A mouth ulcer that does not heal in 3 weeks
- White or red patches in the mouth, reduced mouth opening
- A lump in the neck
- Hoarse voice, difficulty or pain in swallowing
Diagnosis
Examination, biopsy, and CT/MRI or PET-CT scan for staging.
Treatment
Most head and neck cancers need surgery and/or radiation. The medical oncologist's role includes: - Chemotherapy with radiation (chemoradiation), or before surgery to shrink large tumours - Metronomic (low-dose oral) chemotherapy for selected patients - Immunotherapy and targeted therapy for recurrent or spread disease - Nutrition support – feeding tubes, mouth care and pain control
Prevention
Stopping tobacco in any form is the single most effective step. It is never too late to quit.
