मल्टिपल मायलोमा: कंबरदुखी, हाडदुखी, हाड सहज मोडणे, रक्तक्षय, मूत्रपिंडाचा त्रास – विशेषतः ५० वर्षांवरील व्यक्तींमध्ये – मायलोमाचे लक्षण असू शकते. आधुनिक उपचारांनी हा आजार अनेक वर्षे नियंत्रणात राहतो.
मल्टीपल मायलोमा: कमर दर्द, हड्डियों में दर्द, आसानी से हड्डी टूटना, खून की कमी, किडनी की समस्या – खासकर 50 वर्ष से ऊपर – मायलोमा का लक्षण हो सकता है।
Multiple myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow. It is usually seen after the age of 50 and is often first treated as "back pain" or "kidney problem".
Warning signs (CRAB)
- Calcium high – thirst, confusion, constipation
- Renal (kidney) problems
- Anaemia – weakness, breathlessness
- Bone pain, especially back pain, or fractures after minor injury
- Frequent infections
Diagnosis
Serum protein electrophoresis, free light chains, bone marrow biopsy, and low-dose whole-body CT or PET-CT.
Treatment
- Combination of tablets and injections (such as bortezomib, lenalidomide, daratumumab) – mostly given in the OPD or day care
- Bone-strengthening injections and pain control
- Autologous stem cell transplant consultation for eligible patients
- Long-term maintenance and monitoring – many patients live well for many years
